This event has grown into a huge celebration with a strong arts theme and will feature the ever-growing young people’s parade and community performance on a stage directly under the Big Screen. In the morning the University of Plymouth hosted an Open House event with fun activities for the local community.
This year the parade theme was 'Exploration and Discovery'. Stiltskin Creative Arts and Theatre Company offered free artist's workshops to local schools to create masks, costumes and giant sculptures for the parade. Participating schools were then invited to the University of Plymouth for a rehearsal day on Friday 20th May, ready for the main event on the Saturday.
Barefoot helped to recruit schools and community groups wishing to take part in the parade and perform on the community stage on the main piazza. However, our new challenge for 2011 was to bring exciting and innovative student street performances and art ‘happenings’ to the City Centre. Mad About Swing, the University Clowns and Marjon Street Opera all performed with great enthusiasm and brought new vitality to the event. |
