Project date:
May- August 2011

Project Partners:
Plymouth Sports Academy
Mutley Greenbank Trust

No. of Participants:
14

The No Offence (Rookies) project was run in partnership with Plymouth Sports Academy and Mutley Greenbank Trust with thanks to funding from construction firm Frank Haslam Milan, administered through the Devon Community Foundation.  The project worked with a group of young men from the Mutley/Greenbank area and provided weekly, structured sports activities, initially for 12 weeks.

Focussing on the sport of boxing (as decided by the group) each session provided a programme of skills based activities, helping to improve the groups concentration, fitness and social skills.

The sessions were held every Wednesday at Plymouth Mind Centre in Greenbank (close to Freedom Park), starting at 4.30pm with pre-workout refreshments and finishing at 6pm. The sessions also offered participants the opportunity to gain an ABA boxing award.

The project finished in August with a celebration event at Plymouth Karting Centre. Six participants received Bronze ABA Boxing awards and we have received great feedback from participants and the project partners.  We are currently applying for further funding to roll-out a similar project across the city.
