The 'Family Futures' programme is a community-based visual art project involving children, young people and parents/carers from disadvantaged backgrounds. The pilot, held in spring/summer 2011, covered the Estover and HOPES (Manadon, Pennycross, Knowle and Shakespeare Primary Schools) areas of Plymouth and was funded by AimHigher. The Barefoot team have recently secured further funding from the Plymouth City Council Localities Small Grant Scheme to offer the project in other areas of the city.

'Family Futures' is a series of weekly, after-school art sessions with local artists, enabling families to work together to create artwork using mosaic, sculpture, Chinese brush painting, Batik and printing techniques. Parents are encouraged to work with their children and other families to create together, discuss ideas and have fun!

The project is supported by a team of student ambassadors from UCP Marjon, University of Plymouth and Plymouth College of Art. The new sessions are due to start in April 2012 and will be held at Eggbuckland Community College, Wood View Learning Community and Mayflower Primary School.
