Tuesday 6th July 2010 - Plymouth Pavilions
The city’s biggest venue once again hosted a wide variety of performances from 13 primary, secondary and special schools from across the city. The Lord Mayor and thousands of parents were on hand to enjoy the spectacle, which included such diverse content as ‘Rapper’s Delight’ performed by Plympton St Maurice Primary School, a gym dance display from Glen Park Primary school and ‘Spider Dance’ by Mill Ford Community Special School.
In the other half of the arena the Big Art Workshop swung into action with another 200 young people of all ages providing this unique window into making art. Coordinated by Lipson Community College’s Brian Ward they created an enormous and awe-inspiring exhibition in a day.
In the evening the venue was transformed into a fully seated concert hall for the Youth Makes Music concert. The audience were treated to high quality young people’s musical performances, ranging from orchestral pieces from Manadon Vale Primary School’s orchestra to rock, samba and jazz.
“Parents came to watch. One was in tears as they did not know that their daughter could do so much in gym!”, Glen Park Primary School
"Being part of city activities with mainstream schools was a great confidence booster for the pupils," Mill Ford School
“Our wheelchair dancer reached new heights with four able bodied pupils dancing with her.” Woodlands School
