Monday 11th July 2011 - Freedom Park

One of the smaller events, Plymvue Art of the Community took place in the new setting of Freedom Fields Park. All the activities were run within the area surrounding the community cafe, which was our partners in this event along with The Centre for Faith and Cultural Diversity, Lipson Community College, and Holy Cross RC and Mount Street Primary Schools.

Under the cafe’s spacious marquee (again, used only for shade) Lipson offered something out of the ordinary, with hair styling and food art workshops. CFCD’s story telling took place in its own exotically decorated tent and Stiltskins’ circus skills and silk painting workshops were based in and around the cafe.

Once again, the children worked in mixed groups, making new friends and learning new skills all at the same time. It was also the first time many had been to and inside the community cafe, a fantastic facility run by local community stalwart and Freedom Fields Festival organiser Jonathan Spurling.

After hours of frantic activity, the event was rounded off by dance and music performance from Holy Cross and Mount Street, watched by children and parents with clear blue skies overhead, the cafe patio providing an ideal mini amphitheatre.
