No of participants: 275 | During the school holidays Barefoot has so far organised 14 days of interlinked dance, drama and music activities with a musical theatre theme. Coordinated by local dance teacher Ali Selway, Showstars has taken place at Devonport High School for Girls, Tor Bridge High, Eggbuckland Community College, Ridgeway School, Coombe Dean School, Sir John Hunt Community College, All Saints Academy Plymouth and Hele's School.
The young people take part in different performing arts workshops with local teachers and practitioners, creating a musical in a day. The days end with a performance to parents, carers and families giving the young people an opportunity to showcase all their hard work.
Over 275 young people have taken part in Showstars so far. The initial sessions were funded by ‘Allsortz’ - the Extended Services Economic Subsidy Fund. Barefoot is now looking to secure further funding to enable Showstars to continue at a subsidised rate to help make performing arts activities available to all young people.
