This year Lord Mayor’s Day will be held in Plymouth City Centre on Saturday 21st May. This event has grown into a huge celebration with a strong arts theme and will feature the ever-growing young people’s parade and community performance (both originally instigated by Barefoot) on a stage directly under the Big Screen. In the morning the University of Plymouth’s Open House event will offer a whole range of activities for young people and families while performance in the City Centre kicks off at 11.00am.  As usual, Barefoot is helping to recruit schools and community groups wishing to take part in the parade and perform on the community stage on the main piazza. However, our new challenge for 2011 is to bring exciting and innovative student street performances and art ‘happenings’ to the City Centre. We are already meeting with student groups at UCP Marjon, City College and Plymouth College of Art and hope that their ideas and enthusiasm will bring even more vitality to the event.
