Big Arts Day Appeal

Since 2000 Big Arts Day at Plymouth Pavilions has been the centrepiece of the annual Plymouth ‘Big Arts Festival’ run by Plymouth Arts Education Agency ‘Barefoot’.

Over 11 years more than 10,000 children from all over the City have had the chance to perform on Plymouth’s biggest stage, take part in a massive art workshop and , more recently, perform in an evening concert – all under the same roof on the same day.

There are no limits on the young performers and Plymouth special schools have frequently said that Big Arts Day is when they most feel part of the school community, taking part and watching with thousands of other children, parents and teachers.

Every year Barefoot has managed to fund this event from a wide range of sources, including a contribution from the schools involved and evening concert ticket sales, but sadly Big Arts Day 2012 has finally fallen victim to the times and won’t happen unless we can raise a minimum of £5,000 to cover the remaining costs.

Despite all the difficulties the Big Arts Festival is going ahead this year with its Art of the Community local events, the Big Carnival Parade and much more, but the place where it all started – Plymouth Pavilions – could be empty on July 5th.

We’re particularly looking for contributions – no matter how small – from local businesses and organisations who want to support  Plymouth children and help give them – and their families and teachers – the chance to experience something they will never forget.
